The Many Uses of Cleaning Grade Baking Soda

Cleaning Grade Baking Soda is a simple yet powerful ingredient you can trust to tackle household chores—without harmful additives or hidden chemicals. As pure sodium bicarbonate, it’s non-toxic, biodegradable, and versatile, making it safe for your family, pets, and the planet. From neutralizing odours to lifting grime, here’s why baking soda deserves the spotlight in your natural-cleaning toolkit—and how to use it every day for a fresher, healthier home.

Why Choose Cleaning Grade Baking Soda?

Pure & Additive-Free
Cleaning Grade Baking Soda contains nothing but sodium bicarbonate—no fillers, no anti-caking agents, and no synthetic fragrances. Our baking soda supply is food grade, however, we are selling it as a Natural Cleaning Product. Due to potential cross-contamination, we do not recommend it for food preparation.

Non-Toxic & Biodegradable
Cleaning Grade Baking soda safely breaks down in water and soil, keeping harmful chemicals out of your home and waterways.

Cost-Effective & Sustainable
A single jar goes a long way; its multi-use nature means fewer specialised cleaners, fewer plastic bottles, and less waste over time.

Everyday Uses & Reasons to Love It

1. Deodorise Naturally

Baking soda neutralises odours chemically—rather than masking them—by reacting with acidic molecules in fridge, freezer, or cupboards.

2. Freshen Carpets and Rugs

Sprinkle baking soda over your carpets or area rugs, let it sit for at least an hour (or overnight for deeper refreshment), then vacuum thoroughly to lift odours and light soils—no harsh chemicals required.

3. Gentle Scouring for Kitchens & Baths

Create a paste of Baking Soda, Castile Cleaning Soap, Cream of Tartar and water to tackle sinks, tubs, ovens, and benchtops. Its mild abrasiveness removes grime without scratching surfaces. Natural Cleaning Paste.

4. Unblock Drains the Natural Way

Pour ½ cup baking soda down your drain, follow with 1 cup of vinegar, cover with the plug and let the fizz work — then flush with hot water to clear mild clogs and deodorize pipes.

5. Natural Oven Cleaner

Use our Natural Cleaning Paste (made with Baking Soda) to spread it inside a cool oven, leave overnight, then wipe clean. For stubborn spots, mist with vinegar and wipe away residue.

6. Clean Toys, Baby Gear & Pet Bowls

Because it’s non-toxic, baking soda is ideal for washing items that touch little ones or pets. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and let air-dry.

HOW NOT TO USE CLEANING GRADE BAKING SODA

One common misstep is trying to load baking soda powder into a spray bottle with other cleaning ingredients. Unlike fully soluble cleaners, baking soda only dissolves in water up to about 90 g per litre, so any excess or undissolved particles will settle out and clog the nozzle.

When left standing, these undissolved crystals can harden on internal surfaces, especially around the spray mechanism, making the bottle useless—and very frustrating to unclog.

Because baking soda is a dry powder, it’s simply not designed for aerosol or mist application. Attempts to spray a mixed solution almost always lead to blockages and a failed cleaning tool.

Don’t Mix Baking Soda with Vinegar in the Same Bottle

When baking soda meets vinegar, you’re simply waiting for a rapid acid–base reaction that produces carbon dioxide gas—and leaves behind water and sodium acetate, neither of which provides lasting cleaning power. In fact, mixing the two in a spray bottle is the worst—you're literally waiting for a chemical reaction, not a cleaner.
